Dear Friends:
Please allow me to introduce one of Chicago’s highly respected Italian organizations. The Italian American Labor Council was formed in 1966. Its purpose was to help transition Italian Immigrants into the American workforce. But, as you know, times have changed and so has our mission. We are now an organization that helps and networks our members of all nationalities by introducing them into the American Union movement. Our directors are diverse in nationalities and work backgrounds. We have a golf outing and a Person of the Year dinner where you can mingle with other members and build strong friendships. Our membership consists of some of the finest Union Labor Leaders, Union members, Attorneys, Financial Advisors, Dentists, Real Estate Advisors, and Independent Business Owners in the country. As Italians, we understand that there is nothing more important than family. We invite you to be part of our family. Please click on the links to find out more about joining the IALC. If you have any questions, please email me at onice33@yahoo.com I would be remiss if I did not dedicate this site to the thousands of Italian immigrants who came to this country and helped to make it what it is today.
Thank you.
Anthony Guida
President, Italian American Labor Council
Are you a high school student who studies modern Greek, modern Hebrew, Italian, Polish, Swedish, or Ukrainian and/or are a heritage speaker of one of these languages? If so, consider participating in the 2022-23 Illinois High School Translation Competition, organized by the European Union Center at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign! Participants will translate an intermediate/advanced text from one of the six languages into English. This competition aims to promote the study of less commonly taught languages and to provide high school students with an opportunity to get hands-on experience in translation.
Students who are currently enrolled in high school in Illinois are eligible to participate, as well as home-schooled students who reside in Illinois are also eligible to participate. The competition will be judged by university faculty who have native knowledge of the target languages and who have experience with translation. Winners and honorable mentions of the Illinois High School Translation Competition 2022-23 will be given a prize and a certificate from the European Union Center at the University of Illinois, and the winners will be recognized at an award ceremony in Chicago later this spring. To participate, please register here: https://forms.illinois.edu/sec/169703375. The deadline to send in submissions is Sunday, February 12, 2023, so register early to have more time to work on your translation!
